MediaInk Brings Home the Gold in Campaign to Reach Out to State Legislators
Gold Addy Awarded for Direct Mail Campaign for Florida Space Authority
February 27, Cocoa Beach, Florida - On Saturday night, MediaInk Corp. Vice President and General Manager Tim Iliff accepted a Gold Addy award for a direct mail campaign and four-color brochure design for the Florida Space Authority (FSA). MediaInk was also honored with two Silver Addy awards for the branding and rollout of Essex Edge™, the Essex Corporation's new telecommunications consumer product portfolio.
The Gold Addy was awarded to MediaInk and the FSA in the four-color brochure category. The Space Tourism Awareness Package, created by MediaInk and the FSA, is an effort to continue the dialogue between the Space industry and the Florida State Legislature. The FSA enlisted the services of MediaInk Corp., a subsidiary of 321MediaGroup, to design an eye-catching direct mail piece to help the organization promote space exploration for the common man as a reality, and, ultimately, to advance the state of Florida as "the place for space."
MediaInk designed a 16-page bi-fold brochure as well as a six-panel tri-fold brochure to compliment the FSA's campaign aimed to create awareness for the potential—and eventual reality—of space tourism. The two brochures were accompanied by a letter and a history of space timeline and packaged in a brilliantly conceived delivery mechanism: an envelope designed to look like an airline ticket. The package was then wrapped in clear Mylar and mailed to the lawmakers in Tallahassee and distributed to members of the Florida State Legislature, the press, and key decision-makers across the state.
In addition to the unique artwork and mailer, MediaInk also designed a Web site for the FSA's initiative based on the design and concept of the original art pieces. The site will compliment the mailer and is expected to garner considerable attention to help bring the FSA's goals continued prominence.
According to MediaInk general manager, Tim Iliff, "The Florida Space Authority's interests are the interests of all of us on the Space Coast—as the Space industry goes, so go the rest of us. But on a strictly personal level, the FSA is extremely receptive to creative ideas, and we really got to run with this and do some fun things. I think the piece we designed for them was one of the single most unique and interesting things we've done, and we've done some innovative things in the past. Winning this award represents an acknowledgement of a lot of hard and important work and a truly collaborative effort."
In an effort to stay ahead of the space curve and competition, FSA's mission is to keep space business at the forefront of the minds of Floridians in Tallahassee and beyond. As more and more national and international locations begin to cater to the space industry and offer potential launch sites, the organization views it as imperative that Florida remain at the forefront of space.
"It is essential that we maintain Florida as ‘the place for space.' The Space industry is a vital component of our income and economy, but it is also an integral part of our identity. Florida was the original place for space, and we want to keep it that way, so we went to MediaInk to help us strengthen our position," said manager for business development of FSA, Beth Reeve. "We love the piece that was developed, and we know that it will help us in our continuing mission."
The contributors honored for their efforts in the campaign and helping garner the award were: Mathew S. Hegler, director, business development and international affairs, FSA; Beth Reeve, manager, business development, FSA; Andrea Potts, marketing manager, FSA; Tim Illif, general manager, MediaInk; John Henry, art director; Lon Winter, copywriter; and Dave Oslin, creative printing.
The Addy Awards are given annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF) for recognition of creative excellence in the advertising industry. The Space Coast chapter of the AAF, the Space Coast Advertising Federation (SCAF), has been serving the advertising industry in Brevard County for over twenty years.
